This past weekend my friend Lei and I went on a little trip! We drove out to Milwaukee for the Wisconsin State Fair! I had never been to a state fair and knew when we moved here that I wanted to make it out at least once. We had such a great time! It's only a little over an hour from Madison, so the drive wasn't bad either.
The weather was awesome, and we didn't even get sunburned, despite being there for 6.5 hours! We were putting it on about every hour though, it was hot!
We went for the big 44 tickets, but we still couldn't manage to win any games. We were going for these giant (seriously, they were like 2 ft tall!) Minion stuffed animals, but no luck! Not sure where we would have put one anyways!
We spent a lot of time visiting all the rabbits in the "Small Animal Palace" barn! So many sweet, cute bunnies! There were a bunch that looked like George!
There were snuggling goats!
And goats wearing coats!
We also saw a pony, lots of sheep, pigs, and pet a horse and a cow!
We ate all the food, including a famous Wisconsin State Fair treat, the Cream Puff!
There was a little shop inside the sheep barn where they had Wisconsin yarns and knitted goods. I couldn't help picking up this Psalm 23 Farm Yarn. It's wool/mohair and the sheep and goats are raised in Kiel, WI. It's so soft!
The very best part of the fair was the piglet race! It was so ridiculously cute, I had to catch it on video. They were racing for cookies, haha! (You can find the video on YouTube here, if it doesn't work above)
It was nice to get out of town for the day and just enjoy a fun day with a friend. I had never been to a state fair before, so that was interesting too! I'd like to go to the Ohio State Fair at some point! Have you ever been to a state fair?
Back to regularly scheduled programming tomorrow!
I went over the week end as well. I did see that yarn so very pretty! Glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely day out! Love that yarn, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your lovely day with Lei at the County Fair! I have never been to a county fair, but do go to our little fall fair here in Ontario each year since my kids were first enrolled in school. Glad to see how much you enjoyed all the sights! No rides???
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know, no rides! We just couldn't quite squeeze it in!
DeleteWhat fun! You know I thought for sure you were going to say that you brought home some bunny buddies for George... or maybe a baby goat. ;-) Kaye England (quilt teacher and Bernina educator) raises goats and even has them in her quilting DVDs!
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to! That's awesome!
DeleteThat looks awesome! I went to the Dane County Fair a couple of years when I was in WI; it's pretty neat, too. The Tennessee State Fair, you ask? Not so much (it's pretty gross).
ReplyDeleteThat's our plan for next year, to check out the Dane County Fair!
DeleteI have been to the Wisconsin State Fair and the Dane County Fair.... but it's been 30+ years since I've been to either... more recently I've been to the Minnesota State Fair. I was hoping to go to the Iowa State Fair this year (I've only lived in Iowa for 20 years, and have yet to make it to the fair), but I don't think it will work out. Anyhow, it looks like you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteWe call fairs shows in Australia. I've been to the Adelaide Show which is our State one and then we have small local ones too. I like the food!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and a beautiful day for it. Everyone back home on FB feed is talking about going to the fair (Indiana State Fair) and I am soooooooooo jealous. I went to the State Fair once or twice each year for all the years I lived in IN. I miss it. Here, we have the "Tulsa State Fair". Tell me, how does a CITY have a STATE fair? It's an okay fair, but it doesn't come close to comparing to the one I grew up with. And it's in late Sept, early Oct as opposed to Aug. (The heat of course, I understand that.)
ReplyDeleteI go to the Minnesota State Fair every year. Now that I live in Colorado I still make the trip to Minneosta in August to see te farm animals, eat any kind of food you can think of on a stick and watch demonstrations for "as seen on tv" products. I really enjoy the fair. I have not been to the Colorado State Fair, maybe next year I will check that out.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the cream puff brings back so many memories! I grew up in Milwaukee and we went to the Fair every year. We would line up to watch the milking in the dairy barn in the morning, then they would separate and churn the cream into butter or whip it into fresh cream to serve in the cream puffs.. I also remember getting grilled corn on the cob and dunking it into melted butter and salting it before eating. Great food and great fun!
ReplyDeleteWe were going for these colossal (seriously, they were cherish 2 ft statuesque!) Follower bombast carnals, http://www.globalwritings.com/custom-writing-service still no prosperity! Nay authentic where we would get put digit anyways!
