I have been trying to write this post for three days now. When it comes to summing up Sewing Summit, I have no words. It was an unbelievably incredible experience! The people, the classes, the conversations, the crafting, the talent, the friends. I am still in awe of how nice everyone is, how amazing it is to socialize with crafters in person and how much I love this community. I took so few photos, and absolutely none with people (so lame, right?)! So, this is the first post of many! I'll be sharing more photos taken by others in the coming week or so. If you have photos of the two of us together or of my class, please do let me know the link and/or email them to me! I'd love to have a copy :) Please and thank you!
So, we have to start somewhere, right? The above photo is one of the quilts made by a super secret bee (that I was lucky to participate in!), for Erin and Amy for putting on this weekend. It was organized by the lovely Ali and quilted by Chris! They turned out so pretty!
Wow, Salt Lake City is GORGEOUS! Being from Ohio, I had never seen mountains like this! And even snow covered. I was blown away by them, and took about a zillion blurry photos of them from the car, haha. The city itself was beautiful too. There were lots of great shops and pretty buildings. Would love to explore this city again someday!
One of the quilt shops we visited was in this little village decked out for Halloween. So cute! Look at all those pumpkins!
I came back with lots of fabric, hehe. I figured as the fabric selection teacher, it was required that I buy a lot of fabric. Right..!? ;) As Aneela kindly pointed out, I was just doing research! Some won, most purchased. Look at all the lovelies! I managed to buy a whole rainbow of colors, and not even on purpose! Got to visit the cutest frozen yogurt shop ever, Menchies! Ridiculously cute!!
I actually bought some yarn! Some of the lovely ladies I shopped with on Friday are knitters so we stopped at a super cute yarn shop called Blazing Needles. I had grand intentions of learning to knit, which didn't quite happen, but I look forward to trying soon! I bought this delicious twinkle yarn. It's so soft. I'm content just snuggling it :)
Friday was also CHECK IN! Woo hoo! The swag bags were amazing, Erin and Amy really found some fab stuff for them! The evening was pretty casual, which was good because I was starting to get really nervous for my class!
There was also swag to be had on Saturday night at a dinner put on by the lovely Elena & Jennifer! Thanks ladies!!
Then it was time for the classes! This piece is a combination of two classes I took! Improv piecing with Jess of Urban Patchwork and Free Motion Quilting with Alison of Cluck Cluck Sew! I am slowly plugging away on the quilting! Also took great classes with Bari J, Amanda of Mrsmcporkchop, and an author's panel! :)
Oh, and there was my class! I think that it went pretty well! I was nervous, but was told it didn't show too much, phew! Katherine gave me a few last minute tips that really helped (thanks again dear!). I was absolutely bursting to spill the big secret, Kona cards for all my students!! Thank you Robert Kaufman! :) I am excited to share more details of my class along with update The Art of Choosing with new content for all of you who couldn't make it to the conference very soon!
I met so many wonderful people, made new friends and caught up with old friends. It was so cool! As Jacey called it, it was like walking into the Internet! How awesome is that?! Thank you so so so much to Erin and Amy for dreaming up and putting on this awesome event! I'm already excited for next year!
More soon! Still trying to recover from all the lack of sleep! And get the apartment back in order, hehe! :)

ReplyDeleteIsn't Salt Lake City wonderful? I was there for Quilt Market in May & just fell in love. I would have absolutely no problem living there.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had so much fun. It sounded fabulous. I'll have to look into Sewing Summit next year. Do you now if it is going to be in Salt Lake every year, or if they're planning to have it travel?
Jeni, it was so great meeting you!!! You're definitely on my short list of faves, so it was actually kinda surreal sitting around and talking to you. You totally made my day when you pointed at me and were like, yeah, you're Wonderwoman on Flickr. Ha!

ReplyDeleteha, ha! my husband and I went to school 1.5 hrs north of slc. he is from indiana. the first couple of years he was there & when we were dating, he was given to saying things like, "I mean, look at these MOUNTAINS! they're like... RIGHT! THERE!" over and over. it was cute. glad you had such a good time - I am super jealous + am looking forward to living through you vicariously....

What a great recap for those of us who were dreaming of joining you in SLC, but were eating Thanksgiving turkeys with our Canadian families! I absolutely love the photo of your students with their Kona color cards!
