Finally finished up the Hope circle's April quilt for do. Good Stitches today! It's been weighing on me for a while to get it down. Between everything going on, it got put to the back of the to-do list. I'm SO happy it's done! :)
I asked members to create wonky star blocks using fun colors based on the border print, which is Rodeo Star by Alexander Henry. I happened upon 8 yards of it for about $3 (total!), at a thrift shop last year, and knew it would make someone smile! It was a great way to use up some yardage for a good cause.
I kept the back simple, using two blocks that I made as well as more yardage of the star print. I decided to free motion quilt it using big loops. The border is quilted with a single row of giant loops and the stars have smaller loops. The quilt rounds out at 60" square!
I usually just pull from my stash for binding, but I just didn't have anything quite right. Plus I thought that maybe if I got some special binding fabric, it would push me to finish this quilt up! And it did, I bought the fabric yesterday! It's from Ann Kelle's Remix line. :)
The Hope circle of do. Good Stitches benefits Threading Hope, who is currently providing handmade quilts to those in Malawi, Africa suffering from HIV/AIDS. To learn more about the do. Good Stitches Charity Bee and how to get involved, check out the flick group here!
Beautiful, Jeni! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading for a while, and commented once when you announced you were moving to Madison, as I'm a Madison girl myself. Now that you're here, I have to ask, where have you bought fabric in town here? Or do you buy online for the most part?
ReplyDelete@Katrina- Stitcher's Crossing is the only place in town that I've found with fabrics I like, although they don't have nearly the selection I want. Come to the Madison Modern Quilt Guild meeting next week! We are a new group just getting started. Tuesday the 23rd @ 6:30 @ the Sequoya Library.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenni..I have just spent a lovely 10 mins browsing and reading the last five posts I've missed recently! You've moved, taught us about vintage sheets, made a splendid skirt and this marvelous quilt..you're an amazing girl!
ReplyDeleteLooks great (:

ReplyDeleteHurray! Congratulations on the finish. It was fun to hear how you came across that yardage to begin with. I had wondered because it is a bit unusual for you, perhaps? Anyways, thanks, Jeni!
