Have you seen all the awesome things Anna has been sewing up with madras?! She got me inspired to dig into my stash! I have been collecting them off and on since I first started sewing, so I had a healthy stash on hand.
I decided last night to make a simple picnic quilt with them, and voila! I was on a roll! It's not too big, 50"x45" but still, I was happy to get it finished up in under 24 hours! I've never finished a quilt that quick! I was originally going to just do simple squares, but I needed it to be a little bigger, so I added the "bricks". It was super easy to piece and took no time at all!
For the backing I used a solid sheet I thrifted a few months ago. It's so nice when you don't have to piece a backing! I quilted it with turquoise thread, some of the free thread I picked up on Thursday! I also pieced together a few big batting scraps, so this really is quite a scrappy quilt!
I bound it with this yummy raspberry Pastry Line by Anna Maria Horner that I received in a fun swap with Jenna! :)
I think madras are so pretty and summery. I am really glad that I ended up turning mine into a quilt! It will be perfect for picnics this summer. It's super soft!

ReplyDeleteMadras--where can you purchase them? I scored a vintage sheet yeterday at a antiques hop and thought of you,. I don't know how you get so many:) I am not that lucky, but the lady that worked there said she would call me as soon as more came in. She was even going to look at her house to see if she had any;) Hope so!!

I'm so impressed with the binding on your quilt. It looks perfect. Do you sew it on by machine only? or part machine and part hand? Lately I've been attaching it to the back first and folding over to the front and sewing it down. I hope mine looks 1/2 as good as yours.

ReplyDeleteI agree.....Madras plaid fabric is just beautiful, with its vibrant colors, and adds so much life to anything you make with it. I bought madras fabric at https://store.fabrics-textiles.com , i think they have the widest collection out there.
