Interrupting the sewing adventures for a little shop update!
Last night I pulled out my giant basket of vintage sheet scraps and cut them all up into these fun Vintage Sheet Rainbow Scrap Packs! Each pack has eight pieces, one each of pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple (ish! this is a hard one!), and two multicolored pieces! Most pieces are leftover from cutting up fat quarters, around 19"x10". Perfect way to jump-start your collection! :)
Each pack has around 6 oz of scraps. Most fat quarters weigh between 1-2 oz, so you're getting around a yard of fabric by weight! I'm listing them one at a time, but I have 10-15 packs made up, so if there aren't any listed, check back in a few or just shoot me a conversation on Etsy and I'll list one for you!
I also made up two additional scrap packs with medium scraps! These are also 6 oz!
Thanks for looking! Happy Sunday!

The Art of Choosing: Supplementing a Fabric Collection
Supplementing a Fabric Collection
Today we're starting the second half of this series: building different fabric combinations and color schemes. We'll start off easy and talk about supplementing a fabric collection or single colorway from a fabric collection.
For this exercise I'm using the pink/brown colorway from the fabric collection Park Slope by Erin McMorris. The fabrics pulled in the exercise were used in my Scrappy Single Girl Quilt.
Before you start pulling fabrics additional fabrics, it's helpful to identify the main colors in the collection. In this colorway of Park Slope there is pink, orange, gold, plum and brown. The multi-colored prints in the line can be a great starting place as well.
As you're pulling fabrics, keep a few things in mind:
1. While pulling individual colors, be sure to grab a few Tone on Tone and Color + White prints.
2. When choosing prints with large and small accents, be thoughtful about the colors of those accents. Those accents shouldn't clash with the other colors in the scheme/ In this case, I'm working with a warm color palette, so I'm avoiding cool colors like blue and green.
3. Think about using a good mix of geometric and floral prints.
4. Consider adding in solids. Finding solids that match the colors in the collection you're working with can make it easier to pull supporting prints.
Here are a few examples of prints that I passed over when pulling this stack together.
1. Aviary by Joel Dewberry - These accents are green.
2. Park Slope by Erin McMorris - While this fabric is Park Slope and does have pink, orange, yellow and plum, it also has green.
3. Red Letter Day by Lizzy House - These accents are gray, which would probably look off with the browns.
4. Midwest Modern by Amy Butler - The pink accents in this print are too light and more blue-toned than the other pinks used.
5. Bijoux by Heather Bailey - The gold and pink colors are great, but the blue doesn't fit.
6. Garden Party by Anna Maria Horner - Great orange and pink, but the blue throws it off.
7. Sugar Snap by Melissa Averinos - This one seems like a no-brainer at first, two great pinks, gold, orange and brown! But it has blue accents too.
8. Chocolate Lollipop by Anna Maria Horner - Another tricky one, the brown, pink and gold are right on, but the blue and green accents make it a no go.
Now let's look at which fabrics made the cut.
Pinks
Oranges
Golds
Plums
Browns
Multi-colored
Now put it all together in a giant fabric stack. On the left you'll see the prints from the warm colorway of Park Slope. On the right are all of the prints and solids to supplement it.
And here is the finished quilt I made from these stacks. I even used the original solids that I pulled as the block backgrounds. For more about this quilt: Scrappy Single Girl Quilt.

This Week
I finished my new purse yesterday! I love it! I have a love/hate relationship with the process of using this pattern, but it's totally worth the result! I used the Emma Bag pattern by Grand Revival Designs. I did a few things differently: I interfaced the entire thing with fusible fleece and used Peltex for the bottom. I also altered the strap, making it shorter and slightly wider. I didn't piece the lining front or back like instructed, I traced a new pattern piece and used that instead to avoid a seam down the middle.
The exterior is Lovesme Lovesmenot in Bark by Anna Maria Horner from Innocent Crush. It's home dec weight cotton sateen, really dreamy to work with. The bottom accents are Wallflower in Mustard by Amy Butler from Lotus. The lining is Apples & Ginger by Bonijean. Finally, the inside pocket is Fortune in Chocolate by Anna Maria Horner from Good Folks!
Look what arrived in my mailbox yesterday?! Yes, that's right, the gorgeous single girl pillow that Angela made! And! It's made from vintage sheets that I sent Angela in December in a swap! How cool is that? On top of that, one of her beautiful crochet stars! And can you believe 2 out of the 3 pillow-forms I have are 24"? Match made in heaven! I am in love, thank you dear!
As if I wasn't already spoiled enough! Terri & Sophia surprised me with this ridiculously cute pink hedgehog! It's been a bit of a rough week and this really cheered me up! Thank you, that was so sweet of you! Hello Kitty has already claimed him! They do have almost the same fur! Haha!
One of my better ideas if I do say so myself. My Mom gave me a bunch of rhubarb at the end of the summer right after she made this amazing cobbler (hello, it has a shortcake topping, YUM). I decided to stick the rhubarb in the freezer and save it for the middle of winter. I thought "how good would strawberry rhubarb cobbler taste in the middle of winter?". The verdict: very, very good!
Felt like making salsa this week. I happened to ask for recipe suggestions a mere minutes after Erin posted a photo of the salsa she made last night! She pointed me in the direction of the Pioneer Woman's recipe! So good!
George!
Today I love the..
Smell of: I can't smell anything, allergies!
Sound of: Keane
Taste of: Salsa
Sight of: Hot bath
Feel of: Fresh air
Good Things about Today:
- It was 58 degrees today! IN OHIO! IN FEBRUARY! :)
- I wore sandals!
- Did well on my first graphic design project!
- Was able to open the windows today!
